Town of Austerlitz Highway Dept Ratifies 1st Contract!!
The Town of Austerlitz highway dept employees were once one of the lowest paid highway depts in Columbia County. That wasn't their #1 reason for deciding to organize and join the Teamsters. They were more concerned about being protected.
Public Sector employees are at the mercy of their town boards, who can change the conditions of their employment with just one board resolution.
With their first contract being ratified the starting wages were substantially raised and are now in line with the neighboring Teamster town highway depts.
Town of Austerlitz Steward Jim Casey said, “After a lot of hard work, we’re grateful to be part of the Teamster Family. I would like to give a big shout out to all those involved from Local 294 that helped make this successful.”
Business Agent Michael Degano stated, “ I would like to congratulate our new members at the Town of Austerlitz for being so committed to the Union cause. This group truly embraced a Team approach when it came to contract negotiations, the entire crew participated in negotiations from beginning to end. Our members today have contractual guarantees in writing as opposed to broken or forgotten promises of the past, great job and welcome aboard!
Congratulations Brothers!!
